Portfolio: Jephson Property Management – A Professional Wix Website for a South Devon Business
At South Devon Web Design, most of the websites I build are created using WordPress. It’s my go-to platform because of its flexibility, scalability, and the wide range of tools available for both design and search engine optimisation (SEO).
That said, I also work with other platforms when they’re the right fit for a client’s needs. I’ve built and managed websites on Squarespace, Shopify, and Wix—each platform has its strengths, and choosing the right one depends on the nature of the business, the desired functionality, and the client’s priorities for ongoing maintenance.
A recent project for Jephson Property Management, a property management service based in South Devon, is a great example of this flexibility in action. In this case, Wix was the ideal choice.
About the Client
Jephson Property Management is a locally run business specialising in managing residential properties across South Devon. They offer services such as:
Managing tenancy agreements
Handling maintenance requests
Liaising with landlords and tenants
Overseeing the day-to-day running of properties
With a growing client base and a professional reputation, Jephson PM needed a modern, clean, and trustworthy online presence that would appeal to both property owners and tenants.
The business was already well-established offline, but their previous website wasn’t delivering the professional image they wanted. It was also difficult to update and wasn’t performing as well as it could in search engine rankings.
Why Wix Was the Right Choice
While WordPress remains my default platform, I always take the time to discuss the right tool for the job with my clients. For Jephson PM, the requirements were:
Straightforward content updates without needing a steep learning curve
A visually appealing, modern design to reflect the professionalism of their services
A quick development turnaround to get the site live without delay
Cost-effectiveness for a small business budget
Built-in tools to help with basic SEO and analytics
Wix met all of these criteria. It’s a good choice for smaller businesses that don’t need the advanced flexibility of WordPress but still want a professional, mobile-responsive, and search engine-friendly site.
The Design Brief
Jephson PM wanted a clear, trustworthy, and easy-to-navigate website. We agreed early on that the design should be clean and modern while avoiding anything too flashy or complicated.
Key design considerations included:
A navy blue brand colour (#000080) used for the header, footer, and key call-to-action elements
Plenty of white space for readability and a professional feel
A clear, high-quality photograph of the business owner to add trust and personal connection
Easy-to-find contact details in the footer and on a dedicated contact page
A layout that balances content and visual appeal so the site isn’t too short for multiple pages but doesn’t require endless scrolling
Building the Website
Although Wix has a drag-and-drop interface, creating a site that’s both attractive and search engine-friendly takes skill and planning. My process included:
1. Content Planning
Before touching the design, I worked with the client to finalise their content. This included refining their service descriptions, making sure we used search-friendly language, and structuring the text so it was easy for visitors to scan.
2. Design & Layout
Using the agreed colour palette, I designed a custom Wix layout that combined strong brand visuals with a clean user experience. The header and footer carry the navy theme, while the main body uses a white background with black text for clarity.
3. On-Brand Photography
I incorporated the professional headshot provided by the client to give the site a personal touch. People connect with people, and seeing the business owner helps build immediate trust.
4. Mobile Responsiveness
A large percentage of users will visit the site on their phones, so I ensured the design looked just as good on mobile as it did on desktop. Wix’s responsive tools allowed me to fine-tune the mobile view for a smooth experience.
5. Call-to-Action Elements
The “Contact” and “Request a Quote” options are easy to find throughout the site. Call-to-action buttons use the navy background with white text to stand out against the white page background.
SEO and Search Engine Friendliness
Even though Wix is sometimes seen as less SEO-friendly than WordPress, with the right approach it can still deliver strong search performance. I implemented a range of SEO best practices, including:
Keyword research to ensure the site targeted relevant local search terms such as property management South Devon, residential property management, and South Devon letting services
Optimised meta titles and descriptions for each page
Correct use of heading tags (H1, H2, H3) for both users and search engines
Alt text for all images to improve accessibility and SEO
Fast-loading, compressed images to reduce page load times
Submitting the site to Google Search Console for indexing and performance tracking
I also provided the client with guidance on how to update their site content in a way that keeps it optimised over time—something many small business owners overlook.
The Final Result
The finished site is a professional, easy-to-use, and mobile-friendly platform that represents Jephson Property Management’s values and services.
Navigation is simple and intuitive, with clear menu links and concise page titles.
The visual design conveys trustworthiness while staying modern and uncluttered.
Calls-to-action are placed strategically so visitors always know how to get in touch.
The site is fully search engine optimised, giving Jephson PM the best chance of being found by potential clients in South Devon.
Working With Different Platforms
While this project used Wix, I want to highlight that platform choice is always about what’s best for the client. For some businesses, WordPress will still be the ideal choice—particularly if they need highly customised functionality, advanced SEO tools, or the ability to scale up significantly in the future.
Other businesses may benefit from Squarespace for its design-led templates, or Shopify if they need powerful eCommerce capabilities.
My role is to match the platform to the project, ensuring the end result works for the client both now and in the long term.
Ongoing Support
I don’t just hand over a website and disappear. I offer ongoing website management services, which can include:
Keeping content up to date
Monitoring site performance
Making design tweaks as the business evolves
Continuing SEO improvements over time
For Jephson PM, I’ll be available to help with any future updates or expansions, so their site remains fresh, relevant, and visible to potential clients.
Conclusion
The Jephson Property Management project is a perfect example of how choosing the right platform—in this case, Wix—can result in a professional, functional, and search-friendly website that meets the specific needs of the business.
Whether it’s WordPress, Squarespace, Shopify, or Wix, my goal is always the same: to create a website that not only looks great but also helps my clients achieve their business goals.
If you’re a South Devon business looking for a new website or an upgrade to your existing one, I can help you choose the right platform and create a site that works for you—both visually and in search results.
